GUARDIANS OF THE HEART:

SELF-WORTHINESS IN RELATIONSHIP

Mario E. Martinez, Psy.D.

When our hearts are young and we lack sufficient protective skills, those who shape our histories can inflict emotional pain that disrupts the natural order of how self-valuation develops. Although these traumatic events occur under different conditions, their symbols remain the same across cultures and they surface as archetypal wounds. Based on his theory Biocognitive theory, Dr. Martinez developed a concept of relationships he calls Guardians of the Heart whereby protecting the fragileness of Self or a partner during times of turbulence, healing fields can be accessed to resolve the archetypal wounds. But the process of valuing others begins with learning to value Self. One can progress from helplessness (immune deregulation) toward empowerment (immune enhancement) by creating a covenant of safety that can heal the hero within rather than perpetuate the victim. The model of guardianship presents an alternative to the failed teachings that promote manipulating with control to meet personal needs.

Using modern cognitive science methods, participants will learn to identify the scripts of fear that sabotage intimate language and how to establish a covenant of safety to promote healing fields of mutual trust. More importantly, this workshop will teach how to apply the principles learned about relationships to Self.

Dr. Martinez is a clinical psychologist who lectures worldwide on his theory of Biocognition (how cultural beliefs affect health and longevity. He specializes in psychoneuroimmunology and has published numerous professional articles on biocognition. In his new psychological novel “The Man from Autumn”, he explores how modern cognitive science and Christian mystical theology can converge to address stigmata as well as psycho-spiritual conflicts that mimic psychiatric disorders. Dr. Martinez has investigated cases of alleged stigmata for the Catholic Church, the BBC and National Geographic.
