THE PSYCHOLOGY OF JOY AND FEAR OF ABUNDANCE: A NAVIGATIONAL CHART FOR SERENITY
| Mario E. Martinez, Psy.D. |
Although research in mind-body psychology has demonstrated the negative effects that anger, resentment and guilt have on our health, little is known about why fear of joy is increasing in affluent societies. The more evolved emotions like love, empathy and compassion, continue to be excluded from rigorous investigations. In this workshop, participants will learn why these evolved emotions are feared and how to embrace them to maintain wellness and access the healing process. Drawing from his Biocognitive theory of mind-body-culture, as well as medical anthropology and psychoneuroimmunology research, Dr. Mario Martinez teaches how to infuse the healing emotions into a cultural mindset that has been taught to feel unworthy of joy and abundance. Participants will learn to identify the denial of joy they perpetuate and the self-sabotaging conditions responsible for lack of fulfillment and poor quality of life. |

Dr. Martinez is a clinical psychologist who lectures worldwide on his theory of Biocognition (how cultural beliefs affect the immune system and longevity) and on his new model of relationships. He specializes in psychoneuroimmunology and has published numerous professional articles on biocognition. In his new psychological novel “The Man from Autumn”, he explores how modern cognitive science and Christian mystical theology can converge to address stigmata and psycho-spiritual conflicts that mimic psychiatric disorders. Dr. Martinez has investigated cases of alleged stigmata for the Catholic Church, the BBC and National Geographic. |
