THE PSYCHOLOGY OF JOY: HOW WE ARE PREDISPOSED TO LOVE AND TAUGHT TO FEAR

Mario E. Martinez, Psy.D.

Most of the research and treatment in our Western healing sciences have concentrated on studying pathology and destructive emotions. Although this pattern is changing, the more evolved emotions like love, empathy and compassion, continue to be excluded from rigorous investigations. Based on recent psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) studies, participants will learn how these evolved emotions affect the maintenance of wellness and the healing process. Drawing from his Biocognitive theory of mind, body and historical culture, as well as cognitive anthropology and PNI research, Dr. Mario Martinez teaches how to infuse the healing emotions to a mindset that has been taught to pay attention only during failure. Participants will learn to identify the denied joy they perpetuate and the self-sabotaging conditions responsible for lack of fulfillment and poor quality of life.

Dr. Martinez is a clinical psychologist who lectures worldwide on his theory of Biocognition (how cultural beliefs affect the immune system and longevity) and on his new model of relationships. He specializes in psychoneuroimmunology and has published numerous professional articles on biocognition. In his new psychological novel “The Man from Autumn”, he explores how modern cognitive science and Christian mystical theology can converge to address stigmata and psycho-spiritual conflicts that mimic psychiatric disorders. Dr. Martinez has investigated cases of alleged stigmata for the Catholic Church, the BBC and National Geographic.
